More Than Just a Directory: A Mission for Accuracy
For many of us, finding a mosque while travelling or in an unfamiliar part of a city is a familiar challenge. You pull out your phone, search for "mosque near me", and place your trust in the results. But what happens when that information is wrong? A wrong address, an old phone number, or incorrect prayer times can mean the difference between catching a prayer and missing it.
This is the very problem Muslimnet UK was created to solve. Our mission is to build the most accurate, reliable, and comprehensive UK mosque directory available. And to achieve that, I've embarked on a personal mission: to go through every single mosque listing, one by one, and manually verify its details.
The Scale of the Challenge: A Look Behind the Scenes
The UK is home to thousands of mosques and Islamic centres, each a vibrant hub for its local community. Information, however, is not static. Management committees change, phone numbers are updated, and new services like Quran classes or youth groups are introduced.
Keeping up with these changes is the single biggest challenge for any directory. That’s why I’m not just relying on automated scripts or old data. I am personally sitting down and working through the entire database, entry by entry.
My verification process for each listing involves checking:
- Location Accuracy: Is the address and postcode correct? Do the map coordinates (
latitude,longitude) point to the right building? - Contact Details: Does the phone number work? Is the website link correct and active?
- Core Services: Are the listed services like daily prayers, Jumu'ah, and Islamic education still offered?
- Facilities Information: Crucial details like the availability and nature of women's facilities are often missing or outdated. I'm working to make this information clear and reliable.
This is a slow, methodical, and time-consuming process, but it's essential for building the trust our community deserves.
Why This Matters: Every Verified Listing is a Link to the Ummah
This project is more than just data entry. Every time a listing is corrected, it forges a stronger, more reliable connection for someone in the Ummah.
- A student moving to a new city can find a welcoming community.
- A family on holiday can find a place for their prayers without stress.
- A sister can confidently find a mosque with the facilities she needs.
Every contribution, whether it's an update I make or one submitted by a community member, becomes a form of ongoing charity. As we discussed in our post on Sadaqah Jariyah, your small action of correcting a detail can earn you rewards every single time someone benefits from it.

- Step 2: Review its details carefully. Is the address perfect? Is the phone number the one you’d call? Are the services listed correctly?
- Step 3: If you see anything that is incorrect or missing, please click "Suggest an Edit" on the mosque's page to submit your updates. (If the page doesn't have an edit button yet, please know it's coming very soon!)
Your five minutes of local knowledge is more valuable than hours of my remote research.
2. Spread the Word
